Swirling Mandala (Cataclysm) is over 4metre in diameter and is located on the corner of Market and Cecil Streets; South Melbourne Lifestyle Centre, Melbourne.
The sculpture is part of a series that Johns has been working on over the last decade. According to the artist, these forms ‘have evolved to become both organic in feel and… take on elements from the Australian landscape.’ The work is also said to reference ‘Leonardo DaVinci`s drawing of cataclysmic water swirls during a flood and includes an intended reference to our current precarious environmental situation.’
